Science Center building that looked interesting from the outside. We didn't go in. Not sure if it was a laboratory or a museum...

We walked by a Mini dealership on Friedrichstrasse. This was a Mini mounted on a wall.

Yes, it's near Checkpoint Charlie :)

Display of part of the Berlin Wall. You can get your passport stamped with the East Germany / GDR stamps here if you'd like (for 2.50 euros, we passed). We also heard that it causes passport problems if you get your actual passport stamped. I find that hard to believe.

Hotel Adlon, which is right next to Brandenburg Gate. Also, many country embassies are nearby. This is the most exclusive/expensive hotel in Berlin, and is where presidents/leaders of countries stay when they come to Berlin. The bomb-proof presidential suite costs only 18,000 euros a night (and as our guide said, food not included).

In 1990, after the wall came down, the city started taking these down and replacing them with standard ones, but were stopped because so many East Berliners protested their removal. So they now stand as an easy way to indicate whether you're in former East or West Berlin!

Some of the water pipes run above ground, and get painted fluorescent colors. We did not learn why they run above ground.

Dad Klocke catching a z -- we took a 4-hour walking tour on our first day in Berlin. Easy enough for Kelly and I, but Kevin, Mom and Dad had just flown overnight and didn't really sleep on the plane!

This church had a twin on the opposite side of the square - one was a French church and the other was a German church.

Berlin is full of graffiti, but some of it is very interesting. We caught these guys in the act of putting the final touches on Donatello, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle! We believe graffiti is not illegal in Berlin.

At the DDR Museum, I'm in a Trabant - the vehicle produced by East Germany. Many people waited on a waiting list for 15 years to get one of these cars! (DDR = Deutsche Democratic Republic i.e. German Democratic Republic i.e. East Germany). The museum showcased life in East Germany from 1960-1989.

The East Side Gallery -- the largest contiguous piece of the wall still standing. It stands because it was turned into an outdoor gallery in 1990 - dozens of artists from around the world were invited to paint sections of the East Germany side of the wall, where it was illegal to 'deface' during Communist rule. The paintings were just restored in 2009, so they are in great condition.
