Mom and I visited many orchards and wineries. The orchards had never ending samples of jams, dips and apples. And the best part of all was the wine tastings were free.

A Door County tradition is the fish boil with fresh white fish caught in the morning on Lake Michigan.

The cooking of the fish is an elaborate presentation. We arrived a half hour early to witness the boiling. The fish and potatoes are placed in a cast-iron kettle. When the water comes to a boil the potatoes, kept in a wire basket, are lowered in.

The fish are then placed in another wire basket and lowered in. When the fish oils rise to the top of the pot, the boiler will add a small amount of kerosene to the flames. The increase in flames causes a boilover, the fish oils spill over the side of the pot, and the fish is done.

Mom on the path down the hill to the lake front at our resort. The first night we took the path down and followed it along the lake into town about 1 mile. It was much harder than we thought it would be with just a little moonlight.
